Childrens "Liturgy of the Word" June 2007
Sunday 17th June 2007 was the day for the monthly Childrens Service. It is different from the UK as the children do not partake in the Holy Mass at all.In the UK children start the Mass and are then given a candle and the book of the Gospels for their own Liturgy. They then have the Gospel of the Day read to them in their own language as well as doing things related to the message of the Gospel. Then at the Offertory they bring the things they have done and offer them at the Altar. They then stay in for the rest of Mass which allows the children and their parents to fufil the OBLIGATION of attending Mass on Sunday. Here in Füssen the children come into the church after communion so their parents have to go another Mass to fulfill the Obligation.
A good number of children and parents attended the Liturgy in the Kapitelsaal which is right next to the church and situated behind the main altar to the left.
Frau Brigitte Bock,Pastoral Helper for Children led the service.
She invited the Children to Make the sign of the cross in the Holy Water.
Frau Bock then invited those present to pass round a large candle which represented God and His light and goodness. All sang the hymn "Light up the bright light" whilst doing this. Miriam Rosenthal-English accompanied the children on the guitar.
The theme of the Liturgy was God and His Creation.Reading from Genesis and the story of the creation of the world, the children sang, prayed and built a collage of the creation. The Reader was Frau ???
Below is the finished collage of God's Creation made by Frau Bock with the help of all the children. The candle represents God and the different layers show the 6 days of creation.
When the Children's Liturgy of the Word was finished the children went around the Altar after Holy Communion and sang the Hymn "You have given us this world"
Monsignor Knebbel then blessed the children and the whole congregation.
