The new Parish Priest of Füssen family of Churches will be Father Frank Deuring. He takes on his new position in September. He takes over from Monsignor Karlheinz Knebel who has been promoted to Vicar General of the Diocese of Augsburg.
At present he is Parish Priest of Stadtbergen and also holds an administrative job in the Diocese.A report in the local paper, the Allgäu Zeitung claimed that Father Deuring put himself forward for the Füssen Parish as he wants to spend more time looking after souls. However Diocesan sources have told us this is not accurate and that no one volunteered for the position and Father Frank Deuring was chosen in another way.
On Thursday 29th May,he was officially accepted as the new Parish Priest after being interviewed by the local council. This is a custom that dates back many years and is almost unique to a few churches in Germany. As he was the only candidate they had the choice of take him or leave him! They decided to take him.He was grilled about his faith and whether he was a conservative or liberal Catholic.Father Deuring gave the diplomatic answer that he was "Middle of the road".
